Abstract
545,343. Valve amplifying circuits. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES, Ltd. April 25, 1941, No. 5354. Convention date, April 26, 1940. [Class 40 (v)] An interstage coupling for a wide frequency range comprises two resistances R1, R2 in series between anode and cathode with the resistance R1 nearer to the anode shunted by an inductance L and the other resistance R2 shunted by a condenser C1 and two blocking condensers one C5 between the anode and the succeeding grid for frequencies in the upper part of the range and the other C6 between the junction of the anode resistances R1, R2 and a tapping on the grid resistance and having a low reactance for the lower frequencies of the range. Fig. 1 shows an arrangement in which resistance R1 is constituted by an M-derived law-pass filter 12 terminated in a resistance 11 and is such that L/C1 =R1, R2. Preferably the inductance L is connected in shunt to resistance 11 so as not to increase the inherent self capacity C0. The screen voltage is taken from the point a so that it is at substantially anode potential to secure high gain. Fig. 3 shows a modification of the arrangement to avoid degenerative feedback at low frequencies when the self biasing combination R3, C3 is used. Compensation is effected by so proportioning the decoupling resistance R4 and condenser C4 that C4, R4 = C3, R3. The Specification gives quantitative data for an amplifier operating from 40 cycles to 3 megacycles.
