Abstract

537,558. Valve amplifying circuits. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES, Ltd. March 1, 1940, No. 3871. Convention date, May 13, 1939. [Class 40 (v)] Relates to thermionic amplifiers of modulated waves in which portions of the wave before and after passing through the amplifier are detected and the difference of the waves derived from the two rectifiers is fed back to the amplifier so as to correct irregular amplification and ensure overall linear amplification of the modulation. According to the invention, the difference wave is fed back by a transformer. The feed-back may be into the grid or anode circuit of the amplifier. As shown in Fig. 2, the input of the amplifier T 1 is coupled by a coil L 2 to a rectifier T 2 , and the output is similarly connected by another coil L 3 to another rectifier T 3 . Each rectifier has a load impedance R 2 , C 2 , R 3 , C 3 ; and these are coupled by condensers C 4 , C 4 to primary L 4 of a transformer, the secondary L 5 of which is coupled to a condenser C 5 in the input circuit of the amplifier T 1 . In modifications, amplifiers are inserted between the detectors and the transformer and between the transformer and the main amplifier.
