Abstract

533,558. Valve amplifying circuits. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO., Ltd., and ALDOUS, W. H. Nov. 7, 1939, Nos. 29591/39 and 13188/40. [Classes 39 (i) and 40 (v)] In a high frequency amplifier, operating at 10 Mc. or higher frequency, a valve having an accelerating grid is used and a subsidiary anode is provided drawing current through the control grid but not through the accelerating grid. An inductance is provided in series with the auxiliary anode to cancel the component of input conductance due to the inductance in the cathode lead. Fig. 2 shows an arrangement in which the inductance, in the auxiliary anode lead, LA = LK. Sa+SA/SA. CKC/CAC, where LK is the inductance in the cathode lead, SA, Sa the mutual conductance to the auxiliary and main anodes, respectively, and CKC, CAC the effective control grid-cathode and auxiliary anode capacities respectively. In a push-pull amplifier, Fig. 4, two subsidiary anodes are provided, each drawing current from the common cathode 2 through one of the control grids and fed through a compensating inductance so adjusted as to reduce the loss in efficiency due to the finite transit time of the electrons. To prevent increase in shot noise separate bands of activating material in the cathode may be provided for the auxiliary anodes. The inductances associated with the anodes may be arranged either inside or outside the valve.
