Abstract

609,859. Valve amplifying circuits. PHILIPS LAMPS, Ltd. March 19, 1946, No. 8419. Convention date, Aug. 5, 1941. [Class 40 (v)] In an amplifier having a resonant input circuit, the damping of which is increased by negative feedback derived from current carrying electrodes such that the negative feedback also reduces noise currents, gain is controlled by varying the degree of negative feedback. The Figure shows an amplifier 2 with an auxiliary tube 42 in the feedback path with the volume controlled by varying the bias of a grid 45 beyond the operative anode. In addition, the bias of the amplifier may be varied simultaneously in such a manner that the damping of the input circuit remains constant. In a modification, Fig. 3 (not shown), an octode is used as the amplifier with the signal applied to the grid nearest the cathode and the feedback taken from the adjacent anode. The volume is controlled by varying the bias of the signal grid simultaneously with that of the second controlling grid. Specification 22915/46, as open to inspection under Sect. 91, is referred to.
