Abstract

556,054. Valve amplifying circuits. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES, Ltd. June 19, 1942, No. 8436. Convention date, June 21, 1941. [Classes 39 (i), 40 (iii) and 40 (v)] A high frequency amplifier comprises a triode valve with the anode earthed for high-frequency and a reactance, connected between the cathode and ground, constituted by the shielding conductor of a co-axial line section with the input applied between the grid and earth through the inner conductor of the line section and a second independent co-axial transmission line arranged to provide a tuning reactance between the grid and the anode. The Figure shows an arrangement in which input from a source 43 is applied over conductor 44 while the line formed of cylindrical conductors 47, 48, 49 constitutes the cathodeearth impedance the space between conductors 48, 49 serving to house the filament heating leads supplied from transformer 51. The load circuit may include a variable inductance 58 while an inductance 64 may be connected across the input line to increase the voltage applied to the grid. The anode 24 is provided with cooling fins and is earthed for high frequency by a condenser constituted by a glass cylinder 26 silver plated on both sides contained in a metal shell 27 provided with an air blower 30 the whole structure being mounted on rails 23. Grid bias is applied from a source 39 through a co-axial line 34, 35 which forms a neutralizing inductance to eliminate the feedback effect of the grid-anode capacity.
