[Class 40 (v)] In an amplifier in which distortion is prevented by negative back coupling instability is avoided by preventing the occurrence of substantial capacity between the coupling impedance of the amplifier and the end of the back coupling impedance remote from the coupling impedance. Fig. 2 shows an arrangement in which the case or screen associated with the output transformer is connected to the non-live end of the coupling. A similar arrangement may be employed in the case of an input coupling transformer. Fig. 3 shows a resistance coupling in which a screen S surrounds and is connected to the coupling resistance Ra.
