Abstract

585,570. Electric resonators thermionic valve circuits. STANDARD TELE. PHONES & CABLES, Ltd., and MONTGOMERY, W. A. Sept. 26,_1941, No. 12504. [Classes 39 (i), 40 (iii) and 40 (v)] A frequency mixing arrangement for use at ultra-high-frequencies comprises a resonant chamber coupled to the input electrodes of a thermionic discharge device and fed with the frequencies to be mixed. The cathode and control grid of the device are located within the resonator while the output circuit is screened from the input circuit and tuned to the resultant frequency. The Figure shows a coaxial line resonator 1, 2 fed with the frequencies to be mixed over lines 15, 16 and coupled to the cathode 5 and grid 7 of the valve 4 which is preferably of the type described in Specification 585,448. An annular disc extension 8 on the valve grid is capacitively coupled to flange 13 on the line and to the screen 19 for the output circuit, mica rings 14 being interposed. The anode 12 is coupled to the first intermediate frequency amplifier 20 by a tuning coil 23. The line is preferably resonant to one of the input frequencies and may be telescopic for tuning purposes and the inner conductor may be capacitively coupled to the input frequency circuits in an adjustable manner.
