Abstract
613,681. Valve circuits for radio reception. PHILIPS LAMPS, Ltd. June 26, 1946, No. 19079. Convention date, April 16, 1942. [Class 40 (v)] In a high-frequency amplifier (Fig. 1) the signal to noise ratio is improved by means of positive feedback over an inductance 5 in the cathode circuit, where the distribution noise is absent. The circuit is maintained stable by means of negative feedback over an inductance 6 in the anode circuit. An arrangement for a frequency-changing circuit (Fig. 2) is based upon the better signal to noise ratio in the anode circuit for signal frequency than for the intermediate frequency, due to the mutual conductance being greater than the conversion conductance. Positive feedback is taken from an inductance 5 and negative feedback from the intermediate frequency output circuit 4 via a second mixer 10 in which the signal frequency is regained by beating against the local oscillator 7. In a modification (Fig. 3, not shown), the inductance 5 is placed in the cathode lead of the frequency changer and the valve 10 serves in addition as an intermediate-frequency amplifier. The undesired coupling which the valve 10 provides between the local oscillator and the input circuit may be neutralized by means of a compensating coupling.
