Abstract
628,740. Superheterodyne circuits. MERLES, A. J. March 27, 1946, No. 9447. Convention date, July 21, 1945. [Class 40 (v)] In a frequency - changing circuit local oscillations are applied to a grid 1 of the mixing-valve and signals are applied to the anode 6 via a tuned circuit, 7, both grid and anode being operated at substantially zero potential in order to reduce noise. The intermediate frequency is taken from the anode circuit by means of a tuned transformer 9. Local oscillations are generated by means of a second grid 2 back-coupled to the grid 1, the capacity coupling within the valve from grid 2 to anode being neutralized by a condenser 13 connected between grid 1 and anode.. Alternatively, Fig. 2 (not shown) oscillations may be derived from a separate oscillator, in which case the grid 2 is utilized as a screen. Further embodiments, Figs. 3, 4 (not shown) comprise respectively the use of the arrangement in a push-pull circuit and as beat-frequency oscillator in the reception of continuous waves. According to the Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 the signal may alternatively be applied to an outer grid of the mixing valve. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
