Abstract

153,681. Taggart, J. Scott-. Aug. 14, 1919. Wireless telegraphy and signalling.-A wireless receiving-apparatus comprises a thermionic valve 19 with two grids 6, 18, the input circuit 2, 3 being connected across the first grid 6 and the cathode 5, and the anode or output circuit being coupled to an oscillatory circuit 14, 15 connected across the second grid 18 and the cathode 5. The connexion to the second grid 18 may include a condenser 16 shunted by a resistance 17, the valve then acting as a rectifier, enabling the received signals to be heard in the telephone 13; but, if desired, the valve may be employed merely as an amplifier, the oscillations in its output circuit being fed to an independent detector and telephone. If the coupling 11, 14 is made closer, the valve generates oscillations at a frequency determined by the coupled circuits ; and for heterodyne reception this frequency is made nearly equal to the wave frequency, to which the circuit 2, 3 is accurately tuned. Either of the coils 11, 14 may be coupled with the coils 1 or 2. Electro-static couplings may be substituted for the eelctro-magnetic couplings.
