Abstract

543,400. Electron oscillators. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES, Ltd., and SMYTH, C. N. Aug. 23, 1940, No. 13396. [Classes 39 (i) and 40 (iii)] A quarter wave co-axial resonator consisting of the tube A and inner conductor B is wholly enclosed in an envelope E with a returned end D ; the tube A is produced beyond the end of the conductor and projects into the returned end which receives-outside the tube-an adjustable plate F for varying the capacity across the end of the resonator. The plate is carried by a screw ; a rod may replace the plate. The resonator is used with a velocity modulated beam such as described in Specification 537,490 ; a cathode and collector electrode not shown constrain the beam to flow through gaps between the fins L.
