Abstract
581,707. Discharge apparatus. SPERRY GYROSCOPE CO., Inc. April 24, 1944, No. 7583. Convention date, April 26, 1943. [Class 39 (i)] Electron discharge apparatus comprises an evacuated envelope and two pairs of electrodes 13 and 14 forming a pair of aligned gaps and includes conductive means having portions 11 and 12 exterior to the envelope and an inner portion 16 forming part of the envelope, these conductive means forming a cavity resonator having said gaps as portions thereof, and an electrode stream passes through the gaps from cathode 32 to collector electrode 22. The portions 11 and 12 are clamped on tube 16 by bolts 24 and gaskets are provided between the members to render the joints vacuum tight. Static charges on tube 16 are removed through a high impedance conductor 49 connected to the outer shell of the resonator by a. quarterwave concentric transmission line 50. The outer part of wall 12 is made thin and flexible so that the outer shell 36 of the resonator can be removed and different sized shells substituted without breaking the joints at the ends of tube 16.
