Abstract

624,452. Velocity-modulated tubes. PHILIPS LAMPS, Ltd. Oct. 22, 1946, No. 31374. Convention date, March 1, 1943. [Class 39 (i)] [Also in Group XL (b)] To prevent losses in sealing a pick-up conductor through the metal wall of a highfrequency device the conductor is sealed to an insulator at a voltage node and the insulator is sealed to the wall at a current node. Fig. 4 shows the invention applied to a velocitymodulated tube. The conductor 7 is sealed at 12, a voltage node, to the glass insulator 11 which is a quarter wave long and is sealed at its other end, a current node, to the metal wall via the sealing member 10 which may be of chromeiron or a nickel-cobalt-iron alloy.
