Abstract

577,821. Discharge apparatus. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO., Ltd., and KETTLEWELL, E. April 3, 1942, No. 4473. [Class 39 (i)] An electric discharge device such as a metal vapour lamp has a quartz envelope with an outwardly projecting portion in the form of a tube 2 on to which a stream of cooling fluid is directed while one end of an electrode 1 fits closely within the tube. The cooling fluid circulates within a quartz tube 12 connected to the envelope which is surrounded by tubes 5 and 7 sealed together. Molybdenum strips 6 gripped between these tubes form the connection between electrode 1 and external leaves 8.
