665,342. Quartz-to-metal seals. SIEMENS ELECTRIC LAMPS & SUPPLIES, Ltd., and ALDINGTON, J. N. Jan. 1, 1948 [Jan. 1, 1947; Jan. 17, 1947], Nos. 64/47 and 1571/47. Class 36. [Also in Group XL (a)] The electrode seal of a discharge lamp (see Group XL (a)) comprises the refractory electrode 6 and an adjacent quartz rod or tube 7, enclosed by three overlapping foils 3, 8, 9 of refractory metal, e.g. molybdenum, and a metallic shell or cap 5, soldered to one of the foils, the quartz envelope of the lamp being collapsed on to the assembly. The edges of the foils are tapered. The shell 5 may be replaced by a solid block of molybdenum and a single layer or several strips may be used instead of the three overlapping foils.
