Abstract
555,545. Discharge lamps. SIEMENS ELECTRIC LAMPS & SUPPLIES. Ltd., ALDINGTON. J. N. and MEADOWCROFT, A. J. May 6. 1942, No. 6092. [Class 39 (i)] An electrode for metal vapour lamps of the compact source type comprises a mass 1 of tungsten or thoriated tungsten which is secured to its support 3 by a number of separate rods 4. In one form the rods are of tungsten and bent to L-shape. One limb is secured by welding, force-fit &c. in diametrical grooves 2 in the base of the electrode. The other limbs grip the end of the support and are secured by a binding of tungsten wire 5. In an alternative arrangement, the end of the support may be divided into strips and splayed outwardly for fixing in the grooves 2 ; or a reduced end of the electrode may be forced between and gripped by the ends of the strips. The support may be sealed through the envelope as described in Specification 549,373, [Group XXXVI].
