Abstract

577,822. Metal-vapour lamps. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO., Ltd., and KETTLEWELL, E. April 3, 1942, No. 4474. [Class 39 (i)] [Also in Group XXXVI] Quartz envelopes with a massive electrode, such as for high-pressure metal - vapour electric discharge lamps, have a strip seal comprising thin metal foil 2 welded to the electrode 1 and united to thin metal strips 3 seated on a quartz core 5 and welded to wires 4, the strips being enclosed within a quartz tube 6 which is collapsed on to the foil and the strips. The strips 3 and foil 2 may be cut from the same piece of metal. The tube 6 should be collapsed on to all or most of the foil, but not the unwrapped part of the electrode, and beyond the junction of the strip 3 and wires 4.
