Abstract
585,677. Uniting metal to glass. STANDARD TELEPHONES. & CABLES, Ltd., and BAKER, L. C. May 22, 1942, No. 7037. [Class 36] A glass disc-like member is formed by a press operation around a tubular conductor to seal it. The member may be cupshaped and may be sealed to a glass or metal envelope. The copper conducting tube 2 should be prepared, as by a borating process, and the disc member 1 is formed around it by a press operation. With a tubular anode support, the anode is then mounted on the tube 2, but with a concentric conductor a seal 5 is then formed at the outer end of the tube and a conductor 6 passed through. Disc 1 is then sealed into the envelope or foot 4. Members 1, 4 or 1,5 may be formed in one press operation. Support rods 7 may also be sealed into the disc during the press operation.
