Abstract

833,432. Thermionic cathode constructions. ELECTRIC & MUSICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. June 11, 1956 [June 25, 1955], No. 18416/55. Class 39(1). [Also in Group XI] A filamentary heater for an indirectly heated cathode, initially bent so as to provide two parallel conductors, is twisted so as to transpose parts of the conductors at one or more positions, Fig. 2, so that in the oppositely disposed portions the current flow in opposite directions. The heater of Fig. 2 may be inserted into a cathode sleeve, or bent round into a spiral, Fig. 3. Fig. 4 shows the spiral heater of Fig. 3 mounted between a concave cathode surface 12 and a rearward cup 8 which is welded to the cathode as at 9, and has a stem 10 passing through a supporting insulator 5. The whole cathode structure is secured inside a shield 13. According to the Provisional Specification such a filament can also be used as a directlyheated cathode.
