Abstract
625,944. Spark-gaps. WESTINGHOUSE ELECTRIC INTERNATIONAL CO. Feb. 21, 1947, No. 5079. Convention date, March 20, 1942. [Class 39 (i)] A T.R. switch comprises a pair of electrodes 11, 12 defining a spark-gap 13, and a third electrode 15, of solid or foraminous material, which has a steady positive potential with respect to the electrodes 11, 12 so that particles sputtered from the latter are drawn, away and collected instead of depositing on the envelope or the sparking electrodes. The collector electrode may also be in the form of a cylinder surrounding the spark-gap and forming part of the envelope, Fig. 3 (not shown). The outer ends of electrodes 11, 12 are secured in metal thimbles 14 which are sealed to the glass envelope. The filling may be nitrogen, argon, helium, neon or hydrogen at atmospheric pressure.
