Abstract

633,404. Electric discharge tubes. LALEWICZ, S. Aug. 18, 1943, Nos. 13467 and 21344. [Class 39 (i)] A gas-filled electric discharge device comprises a cathode 2, an anode 3, an output electrode 5, and a screen 4 interposed between electrodes 3 and 5. This can permit a greater potential to be applied between electrodes 3 and 5 than the glowing voltage of the gas used as filling, and thus electrode 5 may be negative with respect to cathode 2. The cathode 2 is a wire of tungsten or nickel-plated steel and passes through an aperture in screen 4, the latter being made of copper or carbon. An electrode 7 in the form of a ring of tungsten or nickel is provided to start up the glow. It may co-operate with an auxiliary anode 8 and these two electrodes may be placed in a completely independent circuit of their own.
