Abstract

1436928 Magnetrons TOKYO SHIBAURA ELECTRIC CO Ltd 7 March 1974 [7 March 1973] 10217/74 Heading HID A magnetron apparatus for therapeutic or beauty treatment includes an hermetically sealed envelope from which the magnetron output portion and the cathode stem project in opposite directions, the output portion being directly connected to an antenna provided with a microwave reflector for forming a beam. As shown, the housing 18 contains the magnetron 15a, the antenna 41 provided with the reflector 42 and conductively connected to a vane of the magnetron anode 22, and a fan 50 for cooling the apparatus. The antenna 41 may be helical, may be provided with starting bars (61, Fig. 7, not shown) for impedance matching, and may be wound on a central dielectric rod (65, Fig. 8, not shown) to assist the production of a narrow beam, and the reflector may be parabolic, part spherical, or cone-shaped, and provided with a glass or resin cover 43. The anode block is provided with cooling fins (32, Fig. 5, not shown) air being drawn by the fan through apertures 46 at the rear of the housing and being driven through apertures 39 in the plate 40 and apertures 44 in the region 45 of the housing behind the reflector. In a modified arrangement, (Fig. 6, not shown) apertures 53 are also provided in the central portion of the reflector, and in the housing between the forward end of the reflector and the cover 43. The magnetron is provided with a permanent magnet 29, yokes 27 and 28, and polepieces 23 and 24, and the cathode is provided with a filter circuit which includes a ferrite bead 34 and capacitor 36.
