Abstract

604,471. Magnetrons. PHILCO CORPORATION. Oct. 19, 1945, No. 27529. Convention date, Oct. 28, 1944. [Class 39 (i)] A magnetron comprises an envelope 1, including a cathode 3 and anode segments 5, surrounded by a shell 10 comprising inwardlyextending segments 12 defining cavity resonators 13 which are aligned with the spaces between the anode segments. The anode segments 5 have projecting pins 6, which extend through the envelope and are connected together by metallic discs 7. The discs 7 have apertures for retaining the pins 7, and between the apertures are recesses, forming quarterwave lines. The alternate segments between the recesses may be strapped together, or alternate cavity segments 12 may be strapped together. The end plates 11 of the resonator structure 10 are spaced from the envelope 1 by insulating bushings 14. The distance from the end plates 11 to the ends of the cavity resonators 13 is preferably equal to the cavity width 26, Fig. 2. The end plates 11 are secured to the shell 10, for example by screws, to permit ready removal of the shell from the electron tube proper. The resonant cavities 13 may be tuned by variable condensers on the inside of end plates 11, or by screw plugs or variable vanes which may be adjusted from outside the cavity structure. The anode segments are preferably arcuate in form, but may be wires and connected to their associated cavity segments directly by straps.
