Abstract

627,343. Magnetrons. BRITISH THOMSONHOUSTON CO., Ltd. March 28, 1947, No. 8492. Convention date, March 28, 1946. [Class 39 (i)] A cold emission cathode for an electron discharge device comprises juxtaposed members electrically insulated from each other and defining a gap, across which a high electric field may be established, and a high impedance in series with the gap. In the magnetron shown in Fig. 1, the members 23, 24 are hollow cylinders spaced apart by an insulator 29. The edges of the cylinders facing each other may be sharp or may be provided with a series of sharp points or serrations. 24 is joined to the anode through impedance 30 whilst a lead is provided to enable 23 to be connected to a source of potential' which may be a pulse.
