Abstract
618,427. Velocitymodulated tubes. MARCONI'S WIRELESS TELEGRAPH CO., Ltd. Dec. 31, 1945, No. 35315. Convention date, July 22, 1944. [Class 39 (i)] An electron discharge device for example of the reflex velocity-modulation type, comprises an annular cathode 12 surrounding a coaxial reflector electrode 14 and between these electrodes two cavity resonators 22, 23, one on each side of the electron path, each provided with a small gap across which the electrons pass and spaced apart to provide a comparatively large aperture to permit the passage of a large beam current of high density. The cavity resonators comprise thick annular elements 22, 23 connected electrically together by straps 25, 26. The annular elements 22, 23 have on their inner sides annular elements 29 closing off resonant cavities 28, 28<1>. Annular elements 19, 20 electrically connected together by a conductor 21 act as accelerating electrodes, and annular elements 30, 31 connected together by a conductor 32 act as focusing electrodes. Annular elements 15, 16 electrically connected to the cathode by straps 17, 18 serve as beam-forming electrodes.
