Abstract

608,952. Magnetrons. MARCONI'S WIRELESS TELEGRAPH CO., Ltd. July 4, 1945, No. 17107. Convention date, Jan. 1, 1944. [Class 39 (i)] [Also in Group XL (c)] High-frequency apparatus comprises an exhausted envelope 12, Fig. 1, of substantially conical or flared horn shape with conductive inner walls 30 to constitute a wave-guide, and a magnetron 15 of the multi - resonator anode type is disposed within the narrow constricted part 11 of the guide and feeds energy to the guide through a slot in one of the resonator walls. The anode of the magnetron is carried by a support 14 extending to the outside of the envelope and provided with cooling fins 16, and has an evacuation passage 23 formed therein. The cathode is supported by members 18, 19, which are supported from the member 14 by insulating spacers 20, and contact is made to terminals 21 by spring contacts 18<1>, 19<1>. The coating 30 may be a solid conducting sheet or a sprayed metal coating; the member 40 may serve as a lens to focus the generated electromagnetic waves. By suitably choosing the dimensions of the waveguide, interference patterns may be set up so as to strongly reinforce the emerging beam of electromagnetic waves. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 states that the conductive coating may be in two parts and that a different potential may be given to each part. By disposing additional radiation sources within the structure at suitable positions and by varying the phase relationship between them a " scanning " arrangement may be provided. This subjectmatter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
