Abstract
631,339. Magnetrons. BRITISH THOMSON - HOUSTON CO., Ltd. Jan. 31, 1947, No. 3073. Convention date, May 12, 1945. [Class 39 (i)] [Also in Group XL (b)] In a magnetron having tuning discs at each end of the anode structure and an output loop in one of the openings in the anode, the tuning discs are shaped to increase the coupling to the output as the frequency is increased. The Figures show a magnetron with a copper envelope 1 which has radial vanes 5 which define the anode cavities. Alternate cavities are joined together by anode straps 7, 8 and there is an output loop 18 in one of them. Tuning discs 10, 11 may be moved up and down from outside the envelope by the screw cap 18 and bellows 15. The disc 10 is provided with a paddle-like extension 19 and the disc 11 has an opening 20 aligned with the coupling loop 18. A depending flange 21 surrounding the opening 20 and an extension 22 on the lower face of the disc 11 may also be provided, the extension 22 conforming to the space between the vanes. The paddle 19 and opening 20, together with members 21, 22 serve to alter the output coupling as the frequency is altered. The discs are connected to the metal envelope by flexible leads 23. The cathode 6 is supported bv tube 24 sealed to sleeve 25 which is sealed to a glass sleeve 26 supported from an upstanding sleeve 27 formed on the envelope. The heater lead 29 runs through the centre of tube 24 and is supported by insulator 30 and sealed at the end through a body of glass 31. Specification 644,852 is referred to.
