Abstract

611,732. Magnetrons. MARCONI'S WIRELESS TELEGRAPH CO., Ltd., and AISENSTEIN, S. Nov. 14, 1945, No. 30527. [Class 39 (i)] The anode structure of a magnetron comprises a toroidal body defining an annular hollow resonator r, Fig. 1G, the inner wall of the body defining the cathode space is split up into a number of alternately connected anode segments S, and the separation between the free ends of the anode segments and the adjacent part of the anode structure is in the end walls thereof so that there is no axial electrostatic field component between the cathode and anode. The material of the anode is copper, silver, or silver-plated base metal, and the anode comprises two blocks a1, b1 which are fitted together as shown and held in a short conductive cylindrical tube; the spacing between the two blocks can therefore be varied to a limited extent to adjust the resonant frequency to a suitable value. In a modification, Fig. 2E, the anode structure is made up of a metal ring r and two plates a2, b2, the anode segments being formed by tongues bent up from the plates. The Provisional Specification states in addition that the two blocks a1, b1 shown in Fig. 1G may be brazed to the conductive tube and that the plates a2, b2 of Fig. 2E may be brazed to the tube d2 or may be so arranged that the distance between a2 and b2 can be varied.
