Abstract
696,089. Magnetron oscillators. M-O VALVE CO., Ltd., and WILLSHAW, W. E. Feb. 27, 1952 [Feb. 28, 1951], No. 4937/51. Class 39(i) In a multi-cavity magnetron, a tuning auxiliary thermionic' cathode provided within one of the resonant cavities is slotted along its length to reduce eddy currents. The auxiliary cathode 22 is cylindrical and is arranged coaxially within a cylindrical resonant cavity 5. It is provided with end discs 19 through which the heater current is supplied. The slot 24 in the cathode cylinder 22 lies parallel to its axis. An example is given of suitable dimensions for the auxiliary cathode and slot in a particular magnetron. Simple circuits are given for modulating the magnetron and operating the auxiliary cathode intermittently, or continuously over a range of oscillator anode current where the change in the frequency shift due to the presence of the auxiliary cathode with oscillator anode current is found to compensate for the " frequency pushing" effect experienced when the oscillator anode current is varied from a given value. The magnetron may be strapped using two straps at one end of the anode block and four straps at the other end.
