Abstract

660,792. Travelling wave tubes. CAMPAGNIE GENERALE DE TELEGRAPHIE SANS FIL. March 12, 1948 [April 21, 1947], No. 7654/48. Class 39 (i). [Also in Group XL (c)] In a travelling wave tube a rhumbatron cav arranged beyond the output coupling point for the wave, is traversed by the electron beam after its interaction with the travelling wave. The output from the rhumbatron may be utilized separately, or it may be as shown, combined with the travelling wave output, suitable arrangements being provided to secure the appropriate phase relationships. For operation as an oscillator an external feed-back path may be provided; it may be between the rhumbatron output and the travelling wave input, or between the travelling wave output and the travelling wave input. Adjustable pistons or a tunable cavity resonator may be inserted in the feedback path. A density modulation grid may be provided, and the helix C may be replaced by a dielectric guide or delay line.
