Abstract

906,274. Travelling-wave tubes. EITEL-McCULLOUGH Inc. March 2, 1959 [May 15, 1958], No. 7142/59. Class 39 (1). A travelling-wave tube has an output coaxial line provided by the collector block 12 and extension 65 of the metal envelope 44 which together form the outer conductor of the line and by a metal rod 67 forming the inner conductor. An input coaxial line to the helix 42 extends through the gun structure and is formed by a metallized ceramic rod 49 having an inner wire conductor 51. The gun structure has an envelope portion made up of ceramic rings 14 and intervening metal members 16-25. An outer housing 56 of iron shields the gun from stray fields. The metal end member 25 is also of iron, e.g. nickel plated, but the end disc 57 is of brass. The housing 56 is filled with silicone rubber. The space between the tube envelope 44 and a magnetic field structure (not shown) is also filled with silicone rubber. The tube is adjustable within the magnetic field structure, but may be readily removed from it. The cooling structure 76 is detachable. The collector block 12 has an inclined bore 66 to trap secondary electrons.
