Abstract

933,924. Cooling discharge apparatus. EITEL-McCULLOUGH Inc. Feb. 29, 1960 [April 24, 1959], No. 7019/60. Class 39 (1). A detachable cooling assembly for a travelling-wave tube or other electron-discharge tube comprises a tapered slotted member 38, Fig. 2, wedged between the discharge tube and a tapered sleeve 36 carrying cooling fins 33, the sleeve 36 and member 38 being relatively movable for example by a nut 41 on a threaded portion of the member 38. The cooling assembly is for the collector or anode or gun anode. The brass member 38 has longitudinal slots 39, the tube wall is of molybdenum and the fin structure is of aluminium. Forced air cooling is transverse to disc fins 33 or longitudinal cooling of longitudinal fins is used. The cooling assembly can be removed to allow a focusing magnet to be mounted on the tube then member 38 is put on to abut the magnet structure and the cooling fin-sleeve assembly and nut 41 are put on. The helix 18 is adjacent a collector 23 with an inclined hole and an impedance matching section 27 with tapered inner and outer conductors has a dielectric seal 28. The connector of a coaxial line feeder is screwed on to the free end of threaded portion 40.
