Abstract

781,387. Thermionic valves. ENGLISH ELECTRIC VALVE CO., Ltd. Nov. 1, 1955 [Feb. 16, 1955], No. 4598/55. Class 39(1). The anode 7 of a high frequency high power triode is mounted coaxially between and spaced from the inner and outer concentric conductors 1, 2 of a cavity resonator so that the anode lead 8, extending outside the cavity is not subjected to radio frequency current. The conductors 1, 2 of the resonator are joined at one end by a plate 3 forming one end plate of the metal envelope 3, 4, 5. The cathode 11 is outside and coaxial with the cavity resonator, the outer conductor 2 of which is apertured as at 6 to act as the grid. In the embodiment shown in Fig. 1, the cavity is a quarter-wave resonator, in the alternative form shown in Fig. 4 the inner conductor 1 is joined at both ends to the outer conductor 2 to form a half-wave cavity. Cooling liquid may be passed through a hollow anode 7 and leads 8. The resonator may be tuned by a movable conductive piston 15.
