Abstract

986,513. Thermionic valves. PHILIPS ELECTRONIC & ASSOCIATED INDUSTRIES Ltd. Dec. 24, 1963 [Dec. 27, 1962], No. 50949/63. Heading H1D. An electric discharge tube for amplifying electrical oscillations comprises a cathode 1, a grid 2 and an anode consisting of two halves 4 each having a re-entrant part 3 which is orientated towards the cathode and which has substantially the same width as the cathode, which re-entrant parts constitute the active anode surface, and screens 6 arranged on both sides between anode parts 4 and grid 2, the free edges 7 of screens 6 being located between the edges of the active anode parts 3 and the active grid surface, the screens consisting of four strips 6 and the position of the active edges 7 of the screens being determined by apertures in insulating centring members. Two screens 6 on the same side of cathode 1 may be integral with a strip shaped connecting conductor which may at the same time serve as a screen between the current supply conductors of the grid and anode. Plates 5 operate as cooling vanes and the parts are housed in glass ball 8. Anode parts 4 are connected with each other by strips 9. The centring members are of mica.
