Abstract

953,634. Travelling-wave tubes. WESTINGHOUSE ELECTRIC CORPORATION. Sept. 13, 1962 [Nov. 21, 1961], No. 35009/62. Heading H1D. The slow wave structure of a travelling-wave tube consists of a pair of oppositely-wound conducting helices, 37 and 41, made, for example, of molybdenum, having offset portions 38, 39 (Fig. 6) at the cross-over points to prevent substantial contact. To suppress feedback and backward oscillation conducting tabs 45 giving virtually point contact allow some current leakage between the two helices. The helices may be in the form of single or multistrand wire, tape or, as shown, tubular for the passage of cooling fluid.
