Abstract
923,180. Travelling wave tubes. RAYTHEON CO. May 4, 1960 [May 8, 1959], No. 15777/60. Class 39 (1). In a travelling wave tube comprising a periodic slow wave energy propagating structure and means for providing steady crossed electric and magnetic fields, the collector contains multiple grooves to improve heat dissipation. The groove widths may be equal to the spacing between the grooves. The collector is tapered, singly or doubly; in the latter case, Fig. 5 (not shown), it has an electrode of complementary shape, attached to the sole. The collector may be insulated from the delay line, Fig. 4 (not shown), in which ease it is connected to water cooling pipes and has a curved cooling passage therein. The invention is applied to a forward or backward wave spatial harmonic travelling wave tube of the magnetron type having an interdigital, strapped vane, looploaded waveguide, disc loaded coaxial line or ladder delay line. The sole electrode has a hollow cylindrical support. The cylindrical envelope may be surrounded by a fluid cooling header to cool the collector and delay line. A post collector collects any uncollected electrons.
