704,198. Precombustion chambers. DAIMLER-BENZ AKT.-GES. Oct. 25, 1951 [Oct. 25, 1950], No. 24978/51. Class 7(3) In an insertion 5 forming the transfer passage between a precombustion chamber 1 and the main combustion space 2 and having outlet passages 7, distributed around the periphery thereof, which are connected to a passage 6 closed by the nozzle base 8 which projects into the combustion space, the base 8 has a rounded internal surface 9 which merges into the wall of the passage 6, which wall at the position of the openings 7 has a thickness, preferably equal to about half the diameter of the passage, greater than the thickness of the base in the direction of the passage 6, the thickness of the base increasing from the centre outwards. The inner ends of the orifices 7 open into the rounded surface 9, which is preferably hemispherical, and the base 8 projects with slight clearance into a depression in the head of the piston 3 at top dead-centre. The axis of the passage is in line with the fuel injector axis.
