Abstract

708,886. Combustion chambers. DAIMLER-BENZ AKT.-GES. June 13, 1952 [June 14, 1951], No. 14937/52. Classes 7(2) and 7(3) The mouth of a combustion chamber 17, overlapping the cylinder circumference and having a valve 16 seated in the top thereof, is closed by an inserted partition or plate 18 provided with inclined openings 20, Fig. 4, which produce rotation of the air in the chamber. The plate 18 may be of steel or ceramic and may be secured in the cylinder head by screw means. The ribs 21, Fig. 4, between the slots 20 may be of a height equal to or greater than the thickness of the plate 18. The chamber 17 is preferably cylindrical and the valve 16 is preferably the exhaust valve. The invention is shown applied to a fuel injection engine with a fuel injector 22 situated in the chamber 17, but is also applicable to engines supplied with combustible mixture.
