744,554. Combustion chambers. DAIMLER-BENZ AKT.-GES: Sept. 4, 1953 [Sept. 4, 1952; Sept. 4, 1952], No. 24515/53. Class 7(3) The outlet. passage 21 of a precombustion chamber 13 is formed by an insert 24 having a convex or flat and which penetrates into a corresponding depression 31 in the piston ,head at top dead centre, the end of the insert being provided with . throttling apertures 29 which open into an annular piston-head depression 22 forming the main combustion chamber ina direction approximately tangential to the adjacent part of:. the wall of-the depression 22. The insert is screw-threaded at 25 into the precombustionchamber wall and preferably comprises a lower part 27. of high-grade steel butt-welded at 28 to an upper part 24 of. lower-grade steel, air insulation spaces 33, 34, being arranged between; the insert and the water-cooled cylinder head wall. The outlet flange 21 is preferably. increased in diameter at its lower end 35 and the apertures 29 may be of constant diameter or may widen or become narrower in the outward direction. In a modification the insert has a flat and the passage 21 is of constant diameter. The injection nozzle 15 is mounted in the precombustion chamber wall 14 which is surrounded by a cooling water jacket 16. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 711,389.
