Abstract
635,304. Supply systems for space-discharge lamps. SYLVANIA ELECTRIC PRODUCTS, Inc. Aug. 8, 1947, No. 22082. Convention date, May 6, 1939. [Class 38 (iv)] In order to minimize the stroboscopic effect and improve the power factor of a discharge lamp lighting unit, two similar fluorescent tubes 1, 2 are placed parallel and side by side in a common reflector and supplied respectively through an inductive reactance 16 and a capacitive reactance comprising an inductance 23 and capacitance 24 in series of such reactance values as to make the currents through the respective lamps substantially in quadrature and equal, and preferably to make the voltage across the lamps, when operating, approximately half the supply voltage. The reflector is preferably concave and may carry a housing containing the reactances. The lamps may comprise filamentary electrodes 14, 15 and 20, 21 associated with the usual starting switches 19, 22.
