Abstract

631,730. Control systems for space discharge apparatus. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd. July 10, 1946, No. 20627. Convention date, July 11, 1945. [Class 38 (iv)] A plurality of discharge or fluorescent lamps 1, the cathodes 2, 2 being filamentary or otherwise, are connected in parallel across an A:C. supply circuit 6, 6 and controlled by a switch 8. Each lamp has a stabilizing inductance 7 in series, and a starting inductance 10 in parallel, with a condenser 13 to give resonance at starting all starting circuits are in parallel and connected across the supply circuit by a switch 12 which is opened after starting. The high impedance between adjacent lamps ensures stability at starting. The condensers 13 may be arranged in the starting circuit 9 or in the lamp circuit 5 and both arrangements may be run in parallel. Windings for supplying filament heating currents may be placed on the inductances 10, which may have a core in common with the inductance 7 for the same lamp. Specification 569,685, [Group XL], is referred to.
