Abstract

563,376. Supply systems for discharge lamps. FREEDMAN, P., and CROMPTON PARKINSON, Ltd. Jan. 5, 1943, No. 185. [Class 38 (iv)] Stabilization, power factor correction and minimization of flicker with fluorescent and other discharge tubes are obtained by connecting two tubes in parallel relationship with the aid of a condenser 11 and one or more inductances 10 of the kind possessing a single continuous winding. The condenser is included in series with one lamp circuit only. One supply conductor 7 is connected to one terminal of each lamp 1, 2 and the other supply conductor 8 is connected either to one end of an inductance or to a tapping on the inductance. In the first case, the remaining terminals of the individual lamp circuits are connected respectively to the other end of the inductance and to a tapping on the inductance. In the second case the lamp circuit terminals are connected respectively to each end of the inductance as shown. A further inductance may be in series with the second supply conductor. Provision may be made to vary the tapping to which the second supply conductor is connected in the second case.
