Abstract

463,877. Supply systems for discharge lamps. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd., MITCHELL, J. H., and SCOTT, W. J. Oct. 8, 1935, No. 27782. [Class 38 (iv)] An arrangement for reducing the supply to a luminous discharge lamp 2 including a choke 1 in series in the supply circuit and a condenser 3 across the supply for power factor correction comprises switching means for connecting a condenser in parallel with the choke to increase the impedance of the combination. In the form shown, the -condenser 3 normally in parallel with the supply is connected across the choke. In a modification a separate condenser is connected in parallel by a switch. In other modifications of this, the switch is arranged to connect the condenser 3 in series or in parallel with a further condenser across the choke. Specifications 428,084 and 448,783, [both in Group XL], are referred to.
