Abstract

623,529. Control systems for space discharge lamps. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO., Ltd., CLACK, B. N., and HILLS, D. S. May 14, 1947, No. 13014. [Class 38 (iv)] In a resonant start circuit for a discharge lamp D, comprising a normally open glow discharge switch S in series with a condenser C across the lamp, the switch is prevented from reclosing after the lamp has started by connecting a high resistance R2 across the switch and a low resistance R1 in series with the switch so as to lower the potential across the glow switch to below restriking value with the minimum of power loss, whilst the lamp is running. The arrangement may be used with a lamp having preheated electrodes. According to the Provisional Specification, the resistance R1 may be replaced by an inductance.
