Abstract
PURPOSE:To flow a proper base current through a transistor inverter and insure a stable operation of the inverter by forming a bypass circuit consisting of diodes in the base circuits of switching transistors. CONSTITUTION:When a power supply switch is turned on, transistors 15a, 15b operate alternately, a high-frequency output is produced in the secondary side of an output transformer 17, and the cathode of an electric discharge lamp 30 is preheated. Under this condition, a thyristor 24 is in a cutoff state, the secondary voltage of the output transformer 17 is not sufficiently high, and the discharge lamp 30 does not fire. When a condenser 27 is charged through a resistor 26 and its voltage reaches a specified value, the thyristor 24 becomes conducting and the discharge lamp 30 operates and is lit. The base current bypass circuit consisting of diodes 29a, 29b improves the switching characteristics of the transistors 15a, 15b.
