Abstract
589,571. Supply systems for discharge lamps. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO., Ltd., and CATES, J. Feb. 14, 1945, No. 3694. [Class 38 (iv)] To operate two discharge lamps in series, one filamentary electrode of each is connected in a circuit including a stabilizing impedance 23 and a starting switch 19 which is opened to enable the discharge to start, and a transformer supplies heating current to the other electrodes in series. Other lamps may be included by supplying the intermediate electrodes in series connected pairs from additional secondary windings of the transformer. The stabilizing impedance 23 may constitute the primary winding of the transformer, but the intermediate electrodes in the series of lamps may be fed from an additional impedance 25 in circuit with the starting switch, this arrangement increases the starting current in relation to operating current. Where, as shown, the impedance 23 is not a transformer, a condenser 22 may be added, this having about double the impedance of the winding 23.
