Abstract

854,206. Discharge lamp circuits. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. Ltd. Aug. 13, 1958 [Aug. 29, 1957; Dec. 12, 1957], Nos. 27298/57 and 38667/57. Class 38 (4). A circuit for operating a low-pressure discharge lamp 9 from a D.C. source 5 comprises a transistor 1 connected to transformer primary and feedback windings 2, 14 to form an oscillator, the secondary winding 6 supplying the lamp discharge current through a choke 8, and secondary windings 10, 11, the heater currents. The secondary winding 6 is resonated by a capacitor 7. The oscillator normally operates under class C conditions and is arranged so that the transformer is saturated before the lamp strikes and is unsaturated under running conditions. The oscillator may have an additional transistor working in push-pull with transistor 1.
