[Class 38 (iv)] Automatic reduction of the heating current supplied from a transformer L2 to the filamentary electrodes H<SP>1</SP>, H<SP>2</SP> of a discharge lamp F when the lamp starts is effected by including in each circuit between the electrodes and associated secondary windings L5, L6, a choke L3, L4 respectively of inductance less than that of the associated secondary winding and arranged such that the voltage across the secondary winding is opposed by the voltage across the respective choke due to the lamp current, and hence effect reduction or cancellation of the heating current. A condenser C may be included in the discharge circuit to improve starting. Specification 31284/46 (as open to inspection under Sect. 91), is referred to.
