Abstract

623,199. Supply systems for space-discharge apparatus. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd. July 30, 1946, No. 22707. Convention date, July 31, 1945. [Class 38 (iv)] An electric discharge device having filamentary electrodes has at least one electrode heated by a transformer 4 with magnetic leakage which has its primary winding 5, in series with a condenser 9, connected to an A.C. source, and the discharge path of the device L, in series with a high inductance 2 is connected in parallel with the primary winding and condenser. The magnetic leakage of the transformer raises the impedance of the arrangement to high frequencies such as may be used for remote-controlled relays. The heating transformer may have two secondary windings to supply current to the two electrodes and the inductance 2 may form the secondary winding of an auto-transformer 1, 2 with a magnetic shunt 3. The primary winding 5 and condenser may have an electrode 7 in series therewith. According to Fig. 1, the electrode 7 carries a current comprising two components which, after the discharge has begun, vary so as to effect a saving in power. All the circuit arrangements may be provided with a striking strip 10 to reduce the starting period.
