Abstract
1,146,320. Discharge lamp starting arrangements. CLAUDE. 12 Dec., 1967 [13 Dec., 1966], No. 56380/67. Heading H2H. A high frequency electric discharge lamp starting circuit comprises a cold cathode starter tube 2 having a striking voltage intermediate between that of the supply and the striking voltage of the lamp, a high frequency transformer primary winding 6 and a capacitor 4, limiting current of the supply frequency, in a series combination, and a second capacitor 16 shunting the combination and connected to a supply, the transformer secondary winding being connected to the lamp which is connected across the components 2, 4 or the combination. The secondary winding (28) may be in shunt with the lamp (26) with a series high frequency blocking choke (32), Fig. 3 (not shown), or in series with the lamp with a high frequency by-pass capacitor (34), Fig. 4 (not shown), which may be combined with the capacitor 16. The supply may be a high voltage derived from an autotransformer (14), Fig. 5 (not shown), having a high leakage inductance. Details of the starter tube and H.F. transformer are given in the Specification.
